State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell has presented the California Public Utilities Commission with a formal request for a rollback of the rate schools pay for electricity to pre-energy-crisis levels. The Superintendent's office has assured CAPSO that the 30% rollback, if approved, will apply to the state's private schools. The proposal calls for lowering the rate from 15.3¢ to 10.8¢ by the beginning of the 2003-20042006 school year. CAPSO expresses its appreciation to Superintendent O'Connell for recognizing that private schools are partners in the education of the public.
